Thank You Dave McConkey!
I want to start off by first thanking Dave McConkey for all the hard work and dedication he has put into the old web site, it made putting this new site much easier to put together. Dave has managed the site for several years all by himself which is quite a job. So Thanks Dave for doing such a great job and making our job so much easier.
Changes To The Site
1. New site name www.baxtercounty.com
The blue color in the text indicates that this is a link, click on it. This will take you to the home page (front page) of the new web site. Once you are on the front page bookmark the page on your computer. This will keep the site location for you on file and make it easier for you to return to it especially since the name has changed.
2. The second change you will notice is once you are on the home page there are tabs on the ribbon at the top of the page. This will lead you to a section of the web site. There is a Members Only section that has all of our forms, roster, basically information that we don't want the public to have access to. When you click on the members only tab it will prompt you to enter a password. The password has not changed it's mgherbs
Managing a web site of this size is no easy job. That's why we are looking for a media team to manage the new site so if anyone is interested in a fun way to earn your hours this could be the perfect opportunity for you. The new site is beautiful and has many great features but it's very easy to manage, so there are no special skills required if you can type (or hunt and peck) you qualify. Fill out the form in the Members Only section or click on the email button at the top of that page. We would love to hear from you.
The site is divided into several areas
This is the landing page when you open the site, it has information on how to become a Master Gardener. It has our meeting time, location and even a map and welcomes guests to join us at our meetings.
2. Our History
The main tab under Our History, I would like you to visit is the Cooperative Extension Service. There is so much information on this page. You can educate yourself about a variety of plants, weeds even insects. Learn about Master Gardener's history and even other programs around the state. If you are new to the area this page is a great place to start to learn about what grows here in Baxter County. The next stop under Our History is the Calendar it will have all the events listed at one place for easy viewing and the public will be able to see when for example the Seminar is this year. If you click on an event on the calendar a description of the event will appear. The Project Enhancement Days are also listed there, it's early in the season so they may change and will be updated at that time. Buddy messages will still be sent out by the Project Leaders to remind folks of the Enhancement Days.
All of our projects are represented with a brief history and the Project Leaders pictures. There will be pictures and they can be up dated by the Head Of Projects. If there are special events happening at any of the projects it can be posted so the public may attend the event.
These are the events Master Gardener's host like the Seminar and the County Fair. The events are listed at this time but we still have further information and pictures to add to this section. So it's still a work in progress.
This newsletter tab is for our newsletter The Ozark Green Thumb, it will have the archives of the newsletters along with articles listed by category for easy reference. Any article that has information not for public view will be listed in the BCMG Bulletin under the Members Only section which is password protected. Once we start doing a newsletter to the public I will be sending a BCMG Bulletin out separately to the members so you can keep up with the business of the club. You the members will be getting the Bulletin and the Ozark Green Thumb send directly to your email box coming this spring.
6. Recipe Blog
Our newsletter the Ozark Green Thumb always has great recipes submitted by you our members. We now have a permanent place to put our recipes, you can go to the blog and search the categories for great recipes with ease. Joanne Ragsdale will be hosting our blog so thank you Joanne! She will start entering some of the past recipes from our newsletters so take a look. Maybe in the future we could even do a cookbook as something to sell, I know it would be a hit, Master Gardener's are great cooks.
7. Members Only
This is a password protected area, when you click on the tab it will prompt you to enter our password (mgherbs). The first page in this section is a form that we would love you to fill out. Join us and share your talents and skills to make Master Gardener's a great club. There on the right is a list of the business items for the club.
A. Note the first item is enter your hours, this is were you can enter your hours using our system we have been using all year. Now it will be easier than ever to enter your hours on line.
B. I want to bring your attention to the BCMG Bulletin. This is were articles and business information for the members only, will be posted every month. You will get the BCMG Bulletin delivered directly to you in the coming months, but the past issues will be there to view along with all the articles if you want to go back and read something.
C. The third section that I know you will enjoy is the links page. If you are looking for any gardening item, plant or tool you are sure to find the information on this page. Take your time and browse around you could discover a new source for seed or plants.
I hope you enjoy the new site and remember we are still working on it, thank you for being patient with us. We would love to hear from you if you have any suggestions to improve the site it's your site enjoy!
